Giovanni Orciuolo

Senior Software Engineer
Overzoom

I'm a 26 year old guy who has been programming out of passion since he was 7.

For me programming isn't just a job: it's my life. I love expressing my ideas through code, and watching those ideas take a concrete shape. It's a feeling nothing else can give me.

I've been working for Overzoom (a software house from my hometown area) since 2017, as Lead Software Engineer. I specialize in back-end development of RESTful APIs in a bunch of languages, and I (occasionally) take care of mentoring and onboarding the new hires at the company. In 2021 I got my Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering at the Politecnico di Bari.

Right now I'm in Milan, where I'm studying for my Master's degree in Computer Science and Engineering (T2A). I'm expanding my knowledge of Offensive/Defensive Cybersecurity, Distributed Systems (in the context of Cloud Computing) and Software Architecture. If you want to talk to me, you can catch me pretty easily in Piazza Leo!

In my free time I mostly work on various personal projects (as if work wasn't enough). One of my main hobbies is making video games: I've taken part in several jams, both remotely and in person (the first guy from the right is me!), sometimes even winning cash prizes.

I don't just make them, though: before I started working I was in the hacking scene of the famous video game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO). I was known as double v. During that period I met a lot of people who really knew their way around C++, and they taught me a lot.

Every now and then I also write some articles on my blog! (just kidding! it's actually dead, I never write on it, I never find the time ç_ç)
